Every winter product on this site is cheaper, better stocked and easier to choose before the first frost than after it. That is not a sales line, it is how seasonal retail works: the good scrapers sell out in the first cold week, the covers that fit your car go first, and the batteries people buy in a panic are whatever is on the shelf that afternoon.
The other half of it is that most of this stuff only works if it is already there. A windshield cover you order the morning after the first hard frost does nothing about the frost you have just scraped. A jump pack helps on the morning it is charged and in the car, not the morning it ships.
How we pick, in plain language
Everyone in this category writes as though they spent a season testing twenty scrapers. We have not tested any of them, and we say so on every page rather than hiding it in a disclosure at the bottom.
What we do instead is specific and checkable. We read the manufacturer's published specifications and put them in one table - including the rows where the maker publishes nothing, because that absence is information too. We work out what the numbers mean on a cold morning rather than repeating them. We name the source for every figure. And we check prices live, so nothing on this site is a remembered number.
Every roundup also carries at least one product we tell you to skip. A list where everything is excellent is a list nobody should believe.
